Dave Hawkins’ catalog contains a diversity unrivaled by all but the most deliberately unhinged of artists, but it all sounds like Hawkins - earnest lyrics, rich arrangements and deceptively skillful composition, with a warmth and humanity that lets you know you’re in good hands.

His new single, “Wool & Fur” is one of the darkest things he’s ever produced, a rumination on the temptations and the cost of solitude.

The vocal is smooth and seductive, and the whole song is a fascinating soundscape of howling winds, whistling sprites, plucked strings, gorgeous layered vocals. The cumulative effect of it all feels like some sort of a spell is being cast.

Hawkins has teased a larger EP or album project this year. It’s an enticing proposition, especially given how ambitious these singles have been getting.
