Jordan Coley
Sparrow & Flower

California songwriter Jordan Coley is exceptional in a number of ways.   He has a voice that is ridiculously versatile - a spectacular timbre, enviable control and a vibrato that he wields like a scalpel, and a range that puts basically any melodic gymnastics within reach.  He’s a phenomenal guitarist, has a great ear for progression and melody, and is heralded among the thriving Musician club on Threads as the Best Human On The Internet.

There are a handful of songs on this record that we’ve known for a while. The guitar line that opens “No Need For Grace” will draw you in before Coley hits you with a lyrical sledgehammer wrapped in a shimmering alt rock package.

There’s no shortage of lyrical greatness on Sparrow & Flower - right out of the gate we get “We are all walking blind, believing the planks in our eyes are just what the world looks like, so when our neighbors describe different knots & grains, we just divide - never questioning our sight”.

That’s a good barometer for the tone and approach of this record. Earnest and heartfelt lyrics, stellar vocal performances, and varying degrees of alt-rock, punk, emo greatness that crescendos with the breathless triple threat of “Target” and “Olive Press” and the title track, where Coley’s combo of skills leave it all on the field.
