Western Freeway
TV Family
Australian rock duo Western Freeway crank out gritty, infectious indie rock songs at an enviable pace. Chances are, if you see them talking about a riff or a lyrical idea they’ve just worked out, the resulting song will be out within a week or two.
“TV Family” is their latest, a rollicking ride of grungy guitar licks, frenetic drum grooves, wailing harmonica, and some truly infectious vocals that use an impeccable harmony line to transform this blitzkrieg of a track into a sturdy earworm.
The track features collaborative contributions from two of the finest citizens of the indie music community, Cabin Full Of Bears and Combover Beethoven.
Western Freeway has a voluminous catalog already available on Bandcamp. They’re well worth checking out in more depth.

A List of Grievances
Western Freeway are out with a pair of singles today. “Major Tom” and “Coffee” have landed on streaming, and they’re both great tracks that merit a listen. For us, though, the other release “A List of Grievances” ranks among the best and most emotionally effective work we’ve head from this Australian indie rock duo.
The title track “A List of Grievances” is a tight, punchy rocker with some lovely texture and an immediately relatable text.
The B-side “When I’m In Doubt” plays at first like a coda for “Grievances”, like the songs could be stitched together into a single piece in a live setting.
The first half of this 5-minute-plus track is a plodding-but-enticing instrumental with a fuzzy wall of guitar behind a lead guitar intro that’s evocative and at times downright sweet.
The second half is almost an inversion of the text of “Grievances”, another open letter, but this one sprinkled with the memories we hold onto when things get blurry.
The Western Freeway catalog continues to expand with a lot of really compelling stuff.
